Our local mussel farmer is now up and running and producing fantastic mussels for eating. It is true about there having to be an R in the month. Mussels should not be eaten any other time of the year as they are not fully developed. If you are offered local Norfolk mussels any other time they will be frozen. John lives and farms mussels in Morston. They are grown out at sea and a bag can be picked up from his house every day freshly caught and just brought in. When cooking mussels they should be closed and when cooked they should be open. If the mussel remains closed it is not good to serve. See our menu section for a classical mussel dish.
